This takes a few moments to load which is irritating, but worth the wait! There are MANY MORE PICTURES and TIPS on all pages. You can see more about my fabulously boring life (but neat designs/hobby) in an article written about my work in Z Track Magazine. May/June 2009 issue.
I have been designing in different scales and genres for about five-years now. I don't use patterns, so every building varies from the next. Hopefully this site can give you some ideas and great tips for your own diorama's and layouts.
I decided to start this website because I realized how hard it is to find realistic z scale buildings and structures on the internet, unless you know where to look. I have set up a few links throughout, so you can find new Z scale sites.

Cleo's Cathouse
SOLD

You can kind-of see "Cleo" (above right) in a flowing red dress. The dress is made from a tiny amount of coffee filter (this is the best 'fabric" for z scale, wrapped around the Preiser. 1800's era-style.
Haunted "Maplecroft"
SOLD

Haunted "Maplecroft" was inspired by the home that Lizzy Borden
lived in after being acquitted for the murder of her Father and Stepmother. The actual home is in better condition than my design.
The brickwork on the chimneys is hand-etched and has great texture. The roofing is a thick cardstock that I've etched and weathered. The windows are Tichy windows that I have modified for Z scale. The window panes are broken and boarded-up. The trees are twisted, dead, and creepy. They look much better in real life.

Industrial Building- Sold

"Warren Buffett's Eggs and Victuals", (above) "Warrens Dirty pond" (below) and "Warren's Chicken Coop". I am a Warren Buffet fan. Everything on the little pieces is scratch built, from odds and tiny ends, with the exception of the Architree's (just the two pines), and the Tichy modified windows and Door. The tiny chicks and hens are made from polymere clay. The Tichy windows have been modified for Z scale.
The Store is a mere 1 9/16" high.

TIP: Roofs are as important as any part of the piece. I try to vary my roofs by using different textures. One tip I have is to go to your local home improvement store and look at the different paint sample cards. There are many wonderful textures, and they are great for roofing. Another big bonus, they're free.
"Haunted Mansion" sold
I like this mansion because it was one of the first flat top hipped-roof that I built.
Details on this haunted mansion include, a mansard-style roof with slate looking tiles, and iron type railing, hand-etched paths, and peeling paint. Most of the windows came from some little N scale kits that I bought from eBay a while ago, the seller's name is mostlytrains. There were about six kits, and they were a total of about 25 bucks, including shipping. I was hesitant to buy them because of the scale, but I have used many of the details in the kits and with a bit of modification, they can work
well for z scale. I also have used them for dollhouse "art".
Tip: The pine's on "Warren's Dirty Pond"(above) and "Little Mexico" (way below) diorama's are by Architree. I painted the orange pine with a waterbased rust-orange color to make it look like a dead pine. The Quaken Asp's are my own, as are the other trees.
Tip: The best pine trees are, hands-down, Architrees. They are the most realistic.
"The Rusty Zipper Dress Shoppe" is one of my favorite pieces. The street around the shoppe is cobble
stone and the dresses in front of the shoppe are my own "couture" designs.
Details include my first and so far only, power pole.
TIP: Coffee filters work well for all Z scale fabrics. I used them for the dresses in front of the "Rusty Zipper", and also for all the clothes on my clotheslines. Just paint, and drape. They are pliable and will hold a shape. I have also used the filters for clothing on my Preiser figures.
All of my Z structures are scratch-built using a variety of materials, including, but not limited to; basswood, some balsa, different types of metals, fimo, dimentional paints, water-based paints and stains, and many touches of organic materials.
TIP: A really nice touch on the base of the structures, is painting the base brown, applying scenic cement, and then sprinkling a bit of good old-fashioned (sifted) dirt from your yard, on top. Let dry. Trust me, it looks much more realistic than the fluffy brown stuff that sells in hobby shops.
The service I offer may be a bit different from other z-scale websites because I will only have a few pieces for sale at a time, due to time constraints on my brain. I will consider accepting commision pieces, just email me. Please keep in mind that I don't have patterns, so no two pieces are ever alike.
TIP: I really like using Micron Art windows and doors, they have nice detail to them, but they are made of metal so it's a bit hard to paint (if using water based products). I especially love Tichy products. They are N-scale, but can be modified for Z-scale quite easily, just by cutting them down to z size.
I have a return policy on all my items. It's simple; if the item you pay for is not what you expected or if it doesn't fit your layout, or even if you just absolutely hate it immensely (not possible, trust me), then you can return it to
me (sorry shipping back at your expense, but you can use the least expensive method) for a full refund of you money. I pride myself on my work and would really be un-happy if you are
un-happy.
I completed the "Bates Motel" and "Mother's House",
pieces from the movie, Psycho. They were commissioned pieces
for a lovely eBayer. Some of the details on the piece that you can't see from the pictures are; "Mother" rocking on the front porch. "Mother" is a Z-man dressed in drag. I also have another Norman in the back yard, burying something suspicious and wrapped in a garbage bag. The clapboard and the shakes are all hand-cut individual pieces that were applied seperately. The sign on the right side
of the Bates says "Bloody Good Rates".
The picture on the right, is a picture of the run down trailer court series that I started. I have done three pieces in the series, and plan on doing a trailer park "bar" sometime. If you look closely, you will see the tiny hot-pink flamingos standing in front of the trailer. The junk car, is hard to see, but it is my one of my favorite pieces on the diorama, and it's not even my own! It came from an extremely talented modeler, theotherlionel, if you get a chance, click there and check out his designs, they are fabulous.
Lehi Roller Mills
In many of my pieces, the "Z Gang" wreaks havic on the town. If you look closely at the graffiti on the side of the "Empress Theatre" (below), you will see "Z G". At the "Majestic Meadows" trailer park, the Z gang have changed the sign from "Tailer Park" to "Trailer Trash". They have also painted "Z gang" on the side of the trailer office.
